The transmission of air-borne tire/road noise into the passenger compartment of minivan vehicle is investigated. A detailed statistical energy analysis (SEA) model is built to represent the energy flow paths, which included interior, exterior and engine compartment acoustic spaces, vehicle structure, glass panels and the trim. The validation of the SEA model is carried out by comparing predicted and measured noise and vibration levels. The validation tests were carried out both in semi-anechoic and reverberant acoustic environments. The validated SEA model is utilized to analyze the contribution of different noise transmission paths, and also to evaluate various design alternatives to improve the sound quality of the vehicle.
