The shaker test usually subjects the component to a higher vibration level than the actual environment. In most cases, this is a conservative and accepted test. This paper is to quantify the amount of conservatism for this type of single control shaker test. The subject under study is a generic heat pipe reservoir on a generic spacecraft radiator panel in an expendable launch vehicle. The acoustic-induced vibration and loads are predicted. These predictions are compared with the predicted and measured shaker excited responses. The comparison shows that the shaker test subjects the test article to a much more severe environment at its resonant frequencies. The amount of over-testing in acceleration and loads are calculated.
