Vibration tests on the power unit and on the demonstration coach of the new German high-speed train, ICE/V, were performed on a dynamic rail simulator. The simulator's capability for moving the simulation units individually or jointly was used to excite the fully equipped vehicle at its wheels in the horizontal or in the vertical direction. This excitation closely approximates the operating conditions of the train. The time histories of the structural response were analyzed off-line by DLR applying the Ibrahim Time Domain modal data analysis method. Typical results (frequencies, damping factors and mode shapes) are presented. Some advice for future applications based on experience gained in these tests are also presented.
