A reduction in vibration of automobiles at idle is one of the fundamental subjects to be studied in order to control vehicle NVH. It has recently become more and more important as demand from users for better NVH and higher performance increases. This paper will discuss techniques to reduce vibration at idle. The objective of this study was to obtain the desirable eigenvalues and appropriate coupling/decoupling of vibrational mode shapes to reduce the vibration of an engine-transmission system that is elastically supported by the isolation system. The procedures of this method are, first of all, to carry out the optimization calculation of the spring constants, their locations, etc. with the engine-transmission mounts as the design variables. The result is governed to some extent by practical ratios of the spring constants. Then, the optimization calculation is carried out again. Because of this technique, it is possible to select the optimal spring constants of the engine-transmission mounting system that reduces effectively vibrations at idle with better accuracy and shorter design/analysis time than those of the conventional method.
