The measurement of force variation of tyres and tyre wheel assemblies is a procedure that has been used for more than 30 years. It was developed to measure the uniformity of tyres and is the guide to judge tyre quality. Based upon this measuring procedure and the results, an understanding can be made of tyre quality and the interaction of vehicle vibration created by force variation. However, as the measuring speed is between 5 - 10 km/h, not all vehicle concerns can be identified and analysed, which indicates the limitation of this system. The measuring principle is similar to the low speed machines where the tyre is loaded against a drum of 33 inch in diameter, and all forces developed by the tyre or the assembly are measured in the centre of the drum (Slide 3). Today equipment is existing where the forces can be measured in the centre of the tyre. Both systems have advantages and disadvantages and, as the work on this subject is going on, it is mandatory to compare and discuss the results of both systems.
