In order to facilitate the selection of optimum preform architecture for high volume stamping manufacturing processes, several commercially available multidirectional fabrics were characterized by measuring the mechanical properties under shear, bending, and omnidirectional tensile loadings. Special methods were developed to quantify the response of directional fabric in the stamping process. The results of this testing and their implications on fabric preforming are discussed in this paper.
