This paper covers the development of a control strategy and sensor configuration that controls the damping force of a vehicle suspension system. This damping force is switchable between two characteristics 'soft' and 'firm' and controlled in a manner to optimize tire to ground contact and driving comfort. The control strategy is optimized through simulations and actual implementation using different sensor configurations to measure the motion of sprung and unsprung mass. An application is presented of the Semi-Active concept, which here has been limited only for frequencies 0.5 - 3 Hz (body motion) and where wheel control has been added with damper settings depending on frequency content of the wheel motion.
