ABS for commercial vehicles has been increasingly used in European buses, trucks and trailers since 1981. In a new generation, the control of brake slip is extended to include drive slip control for which most of the ABS components are applied. Both a 4-channel and a 6-channel ECU are standard designed to control various ABS/ASR system extensions including ASR engine control, differential brake control and/or differential lock control. The lay out and performance of these are compared in this paper. A modular ASR concept with differential brake control is presented for twin and multi-axle buses and trucks with single or tandem axle drive.
