The feedback control of traffic congestion at a signalized intersection is studied from the system- and control-theoretic viewpoints. The feedback control method aims to hold the length of the tie-up within a permitted queuing length. Simulation results for an actual intersection are presented, showing that the control method can achieve the desired results and is computationally feasible.
