In order to prevent the demands for satellite communications service exceeding satellite capabilities and jeopardising support for critical command and control (C2) requirements, the joint chiefs of staff (JCS) of the United States have integrated MILSATCOM planning into the deliberate planning process. The author describes how this has been done, and shows how this is a sign that satellite systems are in the mainstream of operational planning.
