The authors discuss the ease of steering during lane change, relationships between the steering feeling and steering torque, yaw velocity, lateral acceleration from the viewpoint of response time constant. As the result, the following matters have been clarified: a) steering response characteristics of good feeling cen be obtained by making the difference between lateral acceleration time constant and yaw velocity time constant (Tr), (Ty''-Tr) smaller. In other words, the balance of vehicle responses better. If sum of these time constants (Ty''+Tr) is too large or too small (vehicle response is too speedy or too slow), the characteristics change to make the steering more difficult; b) desirable value of steering torque time constant Tt is affected by the steering response (Ty'', Tr). The speedier yaw velocity and lateral acceleration (the smaller (Ty+Tr)), or the worse the balance of yaw velocity and lateral acceleration (the larger (Ty''-Tr)), the larger the steering torque time constant of good feeling; c) the identical result as a) and b) is confirmed using the RMS value of steering angular velocity.
