This paper deals with the novel control concept so called ground-hook for active and semi-active suspension of vehicles with the ultimate objective to minimize the read-tyre forces. This paper also deals with the novel combination of classical principle of skyhook with the new principle of ground-hook which enables to impove both criteria of ride comfort (acceleration of sprung mass) and road friendliness (road-tyre forces) in a range of important frequencies 0.5 - 10.5 Hz. These concepts have been developed for heavy commercial vehicles in order to decrease road damages. The behaviour of all described systems is compared with a passive system using both the frequency response and the time dependence.
