There is an increasing demand for subsea pipelines conveying corrosive constituents. The report discusses clad pipes as an alternative to chromium stainless steel pipe (e.g., 13%, 22%, or 25% Cr), routinely used for subsea pipelines. Clad pipe has a thin internal layer of corrosion-resistant alloy (CRA),12 such as 316L, 825, or 625, metallurgically bonded to the carbon steel (CS) pipe and increasing its strength. Choosing between chromium and clad pipes requires the consideration of costs, availability, and fluid compatibility. A welding procedure qualification (WPQ) program qualifies welding procedure specifications (WPS) proposed for production welding. The report discusses also the non-destructive examination of the pipe materials and an engineering critical assessment (ECA) such as reeling fracture assessment, installation fatigue assessment, buckling fracture assessment, in-service fatigue assessment, and end-of-life fracture assessment.
