In this paper the development of a hardware-in-the-loop test facility for an automotive application is presented, which simulates the transmission behavior of the control loop of a test rig in real time for the purpose of active vibration control. The model-extraction of the control loop is performed by offline identification with the normalized-least-mean-square algorithm. By deconvolution of the identified impulse response and the use of a phase lifting lead compensator, a nearly identical transmission behavior of the test rig could be simulated on the HITL test facility. The comparison of the passive and controlled operation mode between the real test rig and the HITL test facility shows an almost identical system behavior. The in this project acquired expertise allows to develop HITL test facilities for various applications in the area of active vibration control. In the future, automated functional tests of signal processing platforms can be performed on a simulated process model under realistic environmental loads and also the adaptive controller can be designed in advance before is used on the real system. By this procedure it is expected to reduce the workload and costs during the development of active systems.
