The aim of the project emil (Elektromobilität mittels induktiver Ladung - Electric mobility by means of inductive charging) is the application of inductive energy transfer in public transportation and the evaluation of all facets of inductive charging in scheduled services. Besides the technological aspects of the inductive energy transfer, this contribution presented the methodology and approach for implementing a high-power inductive charging system into Brunswick's traffic system, as chosen in the research project emil, accompanied by first results. The project's multidisciplinarity was highlighted by presenting the research foetus in the fields of traffic analysis, electric grid integration, and component design for high-power inductive charging. The results and experiences gained in different fields of project emil can assist future undertakings striving to implement alternative drive concepts for more sustainable mobility solutions.
