Wireless energy transmission is suitable to replace conventional conductive transmissions in various applications, KOSTAL developed a wireless energy transmission construction kit, consisting of several high integrable modules, including all power-electronics as well as the inductive link. The kit divides the transmission into different modules, which can be combined and adapted to fit the requirements of different applications. This paper has shown, how to build up wireless energy transmission systematically by following a few design steps. After the basic setup of a unidirectional transmission system was presented, the design of the inductive power link was described. Furthermore the principle of using a dual active bridge for bidirectional energy transmission was depicted. Ongoing, the design strategy of KOSTAL's wireless energy transmission construction kit was illustrated, starting with the decision about active or passive rectification on secondary side, followed by determining the DC interlink parameters. Finally, the inductive link was designed using simulative optimization technologies. In three examples, wireless energy transmission systems were built up, based on the introduced design strategy. First example was a engine preheater utilizing passive rectification only. Two other examples have shown applications of vehicle chargers with different requirements on the air gap between primary and secondary coil. Because of the modular concept of dividing the transmission chain into single devices as rectifier, inverter or compensation, the modules can be constructed independently. Similar applications can use the same electronic modules with small adaptions , e.g. compensation or zero voltage switching capacitors.
