It was presented how to use an existing Modelica tool to analyze a locomotive at startup considering the dynamics of the suspensions the wheel-road contact, torsional dynamic of the powertrains and the traction control. The case of the electric locomotive and its 2 bogies are modeled as rigid bodies. The 3D part of the model implements the stiffness and position of the 2-stage suspension (primary and secondary suspension). Traction controlled induction motors are located in the bogies. The model includes the driveline from motor to axle as a 1D torsional system. The gear box model takes into account the nonlinear toothing stiffness with backlash. The contact between rail and wheel is modeled as a friction coefficient in case of zero speed and a characteristic curve of friction coefficient over slip. The vertical wheel load is computed within the multi-body part of the model and propagated to wheel-rail-contact. Furthermore the downhill slope force, the driving resistance and losses are considered. The made physical modeling permits calculation with consideration of the reciprocal effects with the adjacent vibratory components of the drive system. The used modeling approaches promote substantially the understanding for the internal connections like the coupling effects of mechanics elements (transmission and suspension) and electronics (traction control) and differ clearly from conventional modeling according to adaptability, flexibility, adaptability of the characteristics which can be considered. The model was used to test the locomotive at start-up with different parameterizations. The main focus was on the expected loads at the bogie axles as a result of the mounting torque. The adapted distribution of the set values for the motor torques was shown as one possible solution to prevent the lass of adhesion. A further result that was the adaption of the pararmeters of the adhesion control to the stiffness of the powertrain. If the adhesion control is to sensitive, oscillations of the powertrain may be detected as slip by mistake. The presented calculation model can be used both for tasks of dimensioning and for the diagnostics. It is applicable for most diverse questions and applications in the development process from the concept to the virtual test. The model structure can be flexibly adapted.
