Door impact tube is the necessary safety part for modern automobiles. The minimum required tensile strength of steel for door impact tube is 1470 MPa, which can not be reached by normal strengthening mechanisms used for hot rolled strips. Therefore, the quenching treatment is often used for producing such an ultra high strength steel. The effect of high frequency induction heat treatment parameters on the mechanical properties, hardness, and delayed fracture resistance of CSC 15B22 steel will be described in this paper. The results show that the microstructure of quenched 15B22 steel is martensite and the tensile fracture surface is mainly composed of ductile dimples, offering the hardness higher than HV 500, tensile strength up to 1600 - 1760 MPa associated with total elongation of 14%-16% , which can fully satisfy the automobile door impact tube requirement. The delayed fracture test indicates CSC 15B22 steel tube features an excellent delayed fracture resistance when loading stress is under yield strength.
