This paper describes car interior sound preferences in general public. Subjective evaluation experiments were performed in Japan, Germany and the United States to investigate the interior sound preferences. Two hundred subjects in each country participated in the experiment. As a result, four kinds of preferences were found. A sound preference evaluation system was developed to calculate numeric preference values from recorded sound stimuli. Furthermore, subjects' characteristics in each preference were clarified. The results showed that women, older people and people not interested in cars preferred quiet sound, while men, younger people, and people who like cars preferred powerful sound.
