The potential application of a MRSA (Magneto-Rheological Shock Absorber) is shown for vibration control in a driver's seat suspension system. The control objective is to minimize the acceleration of vibration transmitted to the driver. The system has one degree of freedom and is base excited. Selected algorithms determining how to control an MRSA in the suspension system are investigated by a numerical technique. The algorithms for an MRSA in such a suspension system fall in two categories: on-off and continuous algorithms. The on-off algorithm involves the switching of the system from the minimal to maximal position which corresponds to the minimal and maximal damping states. The continuous algorithm allows one to increase the number of switching levels of damping.
