A model for the energetic simulation of the complete vehicle is presented based on the AMESim software. The model includes mechanical, thermal, hydraulic and electrical energy balances. The objective of this modeling approach is the assessment of the impact of different components or control strategies on the over vehicle fuel consumption within either the NEDC (New European Emision Drive Cycle) or more realistic driving conditions. The overall modeling approach is presented followed by some typical results. A model was developed based on commercial software that allows the simulation of the vehicle energy consumption within a drive cycle. The model includes detailed sub -models of the thermodynamic, the mechanical, the hydraulic and the thermal systems. The calibrated and validated model allows a detailed analysis of the effect of different component characteristics or control function strategies on the energy consumption of the vehicle for different vehicle configurations. The model is currently used in conjunction with Matlab/Simulink for control function development.
