The new E high-power series of ferrite transformers has been developed specifically for DC-DC converter in automotive control units (ECU). Compared to conventional EF shapes the power density is nearly doubled. Based on four sizes (SMD/PTH) the cost effective concept covers the power range between 20 and 100 W (e.g. 200 kHz, Flyback). Furthermore the components allow an efficient thermal management and increase the scale integration. At higher frequencies and less number of output voltages the SMD parts offers an option to ELP planar transformers based on printed turns. On the even dimensions all types can be easily integrated in the ECU. The solderable core surface allows a cost effective thermal connection to the circuit board without any additional process during assembly. The EHP series is operating up to limit temperatures of -40 and 155 deg C. The model range has been developed and qualified for high reliability in automotive applications but offer also an efficient solution for industrial SMPS. From EPCOS the component properties will be customized specificly to the circuit topology.
