This paper discussed about an estimation method for sideslip angle. First, a cornering power identification law that is robust to constant disturbance and applicable in the nonlinear region of tire was proposed. Next, combination of the sideslip angle and the item of the influence from disturbance was defined as an extended sideslip angle, and then an estimation method for the angle based on the identified cornering power and the nonlinear tire model was proposed. The angle became the sideslip angle itself when no disturbance existed. Computer simulations demonstrated that the estimation accuracy of the sideslip angle improved more than the conventional estimation method based on the linear tire model. Moreover, the extended sideslip angle was applied to an active front steering law and simulations showed effectiveness of the proposed system when disturbance acted upon the vehicle.
