Statistical analysis of failure data can help in revealing their causes, and thus in the improvement of reliability and quality of railway vehicles, as well as the quality of repair works. In this paper, the use of simple tools, such as coding of failures, Pareto analysis, basic statistics and characterisation by means of probability distribution is illustrated on an example of failure analysis of railway driving vehicles in guarantee period after maj or overhaul.
