Marine reheat boilers present problems such as protection of reheaters during astern operation and cargo discharge, high temperature corrosion of superheaters and reheaters and boiler water circulation due to high pressure steam. This paper discusses LTG type reheat boilers which have been designed to solve those problems for three selected reheat cycles which will be utilized in the marine field. First, an outline of construction, performance and materials of a 101 bar/538 Cel/538 Cel LTG V2M8 type boiler for a small power level is described, and the prediction of superheater tube lifetime is discussed with considerations for the degradation of fuel oil in the future. Furthermore, as a step toward a very high pressure-temperature reheat boiler of the future, an LTG-V2M9 type boiler is discussed. Lastly, the concept necessary to design a 165 bar/565 Cel/565 Cel controlled circulation boiler is presented. (Wassmann)
