The state-of-the-art has been advanced by CBI Na-Con Inc. (CBI) in the completion of a turnkey contract, providing a computer controlled high vacuum thermal facility at Rockwell International. The chamber is the first designed and constructed for production-line-type testing of satellites. Four computers networked together provide complete control of the vacuum process, data acquisition, and history logging. A truncated side hinged door provides easy access into the chamber without bridges or lifts and a structural, LN2 cooled flat floor provides a 25 ft W*30 ft L work space. The aluminum shrouds inside provide temperatures of less than 90K with a 40 kW concentrated heat load. The chamber is also designed so that it can be expanded to twice its present volume to accommodate a solar simulator. The unique features of this facility, including the computer integration of vacuum process equipment, specialized instrumentation and data acquisition equipment is discussed in this paper.
