Describes the use of Swedish technology to electrify the Tumbler Ridge branch of British Colombia Railways in Canada. The 50 kV 60 Hz project involved wiring 168 km of single track and the adaption of Swedish designed 15 kV 162/3 Hz catenary. One of the principal advantages of adopting 50 kV was the ability to energise the entire electrified railway from a single location at one end, where the 230 kV transmission line from BC Hydro's Peace River hydro-electric power stations was available. The Asea solid state control equipment and the electric locomotives used are described.
