Use of a pulsed laser in place of the c/w laser removes the otherwise rigorous stability requirements of conventional holography and holographic interferometry. In conjunction with Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry (ESPI) this provides an opportunity of freezing component motion and providing an in-plane displacement measurement technique for use outside the laboratory. Development of this method for the analysis of rotating components is now taking place at the City University. Little or no surface preparation is required so that analysis under service environmental conditions becomes possible. Results from preliminary tests on the brake path cooling for a vented brake disc are described.
