Efficiency of command and control information is an essential element of the Army's air defense structure. Automation of this information has become essential due to the speed of modern aircraft and the ineffectiveness of the current manual system. Track information retrieval is an important element of the automation process. Three hooking methods for track information retrieval were compared with respect to the speed and accuracy of user performance which resulted. The hooking methods included directional key and joy disk cursor movement as well as alphanumeric data entry. Results from this experiment will provide the data base needed to determine the appropriate hardware characteristics for operators at the fire unit level as well as at higher levels within the military command and control structure.
