This paper discusses the problems of exploiting imagery, suggests the Multi-Imagery Exploitation System (MIES) concept as a solution, lists the external technologies taht are needed for MIES development, and casts MIES into an operational context via description the strike/attack mission cycle. The paper focuses on determining requirements for target detection, classification, identification and location. The approach establishes a framework for the interplay of the study elements involved. Key to the definition of requirements is the selection of representative target groups from a scenario governed by tempo of operations and target distribution which could be expected in a NATO/Warsaw Pact conflict in Central Europe. The operational utility of MIES is then described in terms of battle management functions, air operations and targeting. Implications are then drawn with resprect to desirable directions for MIES development.
