This article analyses aircraft accidents in Brazil, with monthly data from 1999-2009, using recently-developed techniques based on fractional integration. Aircraft accidents are shown to be fractionally integrated, therefore persistent, displaying long memory behaviour, while helicopters accidents and victims are characterized as short memory processes. Policy implications are derived for countering accident events.
