Twenty years of research works by the author and his colleagues at the University of Tokyo are reviewed. The research moves towards a virtual reality technology based on computational physics, especially computational fluid dynamics. Computer technology was first utilized for the purpose of elucidating physical phenomena, especially nonlinear ones such as turbulence and shock waves, and then for the purpose of designing or inventing new systems including ships.
