The application of the self-steering principle to motor bogies is discussed with particular reference to the conflicting requirements of a low yaw constraint on the wheelset and a coupling between the wheelset and the bogie frame for the transmission of traction forces. A solution to this problem is proposed. Furthermore a means by which a high shear constraint may be effected between adjoining wheelsets whilst not impairing self-steering is described.
