Controllable line commutated converter (CLCC) retains advantages of low loss and large transmission capacity of the line commutated converter (LCC). The commutation failure caused by the conventional LCC can be avoided by adding the topology of the controllable device mixed with the semi-control device, and has been successfully applied to the Nanqiao converter station. The ±500 kV Nanqiao project has also become China’s first CLCC technology field operation project in the world. After year of operation, the converter valve station power outage annual inspection. This paper introduces the Nanqiao project, analyzes the fault recording during operation, and proves that CLCC is more resistant to commutation failure. In addition, the test of the IGBT driver board and the daily alarm of the valve control system are analyzed during the annual inspection, and the overvoltage and current of each valve under trigger loss are given. Based on the analysis conclusions of the annual inspection results, suggestions are put forward for the CLCC converter valve’s daily inspection and maintenance in the next year, which can provide references for the subsequent CLCC engineering transformation and the formulation of operation and maintenance strategies.
