In developing countries like India, the transportation system plays an important role in overall economic development. The major transportation system in India is Indian Railways which has a vast transportation network to carters to the needs of 1.38 billion people. Also, the development of the country’s first 508.17-km-long bullet train corridor is under process for economic prosperity. To run and maintain this, rail welding plays an important role. The paper reviews on different types of rail welding techniques as they are important for heavy load trains and high-speed rail network, i.e., flash butt welding, gas pressure welding, thermite welding, and enclosed arc welding with the weld quality, and also highlights the different welding techniques that are been used in developed countries and futuristic weld techniques that can be utilized for better weld quality of the rail.
