Since the concept of imaging radar was proposed by an American scientist in 1951, the United States first developed the AN/APQ-97 airborne Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR). After the 1970s, SAR extended from airborne to spaceborne, marking a new era of space operations for reconnaissance and remote sensing of the earth.
