The goal of a railway system is to provide a certain level of rail traffic that runs on schedule and is safe. In addition to the actual functional requirements, automatic train control systems must also fulfill non-functional requirements. Dependability as a system characteristic of automatic train control systems is also referred to in English with the abbreviation RAMSS.
