The ISF4524 research engine at the “Institut für Schiffsbetriebsforschung (ISF)” FH Flensburg, with an IC-timing of 60 °CA b.BDC has been successfully turbocharged using a 2-stage turbocharging system. Safe operation according to propeller law was secured at part load by controlling the air receiver pressure via a waste gate installed at the HP-turbocharger turbine. A comparison of tests performed on the engine in its standard configuration show, in particular, a reduction in NOx emissions of more than 45%.
