The commercial engine market consisting of over-the-road truck, off-highway, agricultural, construction, and stationary applications will demand higher performance, durability and fuel economy at lower relative costs between now and the end of the century. Projections are made on the size of the diesel engine market, fuel economy, and operating features to the year 2000. The diesel will continue to be the predominant engine; however, other engines exhibit features such as multifuel capability that offer substantial promise.
