Engineering problems encountered in the development of propellant feed systems of space vehicles are discussed, and methods adopted for solution of these problems are presented. Propellant conditioning in the engine feed lines under normal and near zero gravity conditions, thermodynamics of tank pressurization, operation and control of pressurant supply systems, and optimization of propellant residuals are emphasized. Analytical studies and experimental data obtained by the Marshall Space Flight Center in support of the SATURN Space Program are utilized to illustrate the effect of the propellant feed system on overall vehicle design.
