The Allison T-56 turboprop aircraft engine has been modified for use as an industrial prime mover. This engine, called the model 501-K5, provides reliable industrial power at low initial cost. To improve efficiency and augment capability, a Rankine cycle powerplant operating on the exhaust heat of this engine is proposed. The performance and design of the exhaust heat plant are discussed. It is shown that such a plant is economically feasible to build and that it will enlarge the range of application of the 501-K5 engine in industrial service.
