Jones looks at how the contractors working with the NASA and former astronauts are applying the lessons of history to give crews new emergency egress options. Meeting the NASA's exacting human spaceflight safety standards to perform the ISS missions, under NASA's Commercial Crew Program, through left it up to the contractors to choose how to meet the agency's requirements. The three options to escape for crew's safety which were threatened by a spacecraft or malfunction including exit via the outward-opening side hatch, cross the crew access arm to the gantry, descend the elevator to the pad surface, and drive away in an MRAP, a mine-resistant, ambush-protected personnel carrier. Also noted on how to escape from Starliner through closing the hatch at L-1 hour and leave the pad and evaluating the astronaut seating arrangement.
