The statement concerns the realignment and/or reconstruction of eight miles of the Glenn Highway, FAP 42-1, from the northeast end of the 1970 reconstruction near Peters Creek northeasterly to the junction with FAS Route 576 south of the Knik River. The improvement is to provide 4.1 miles of four lane divided highway and 3.9 miles of two lane, two-way rural highway with one bridge and a railroad crossing at grade. Right of way for the ultimate full scale, full length improvement is to be acquired at this time. The main impacts of this improvement, with most of the construction on a new alignment across lightly developed and/or wooded lands, will be the betterment of the only existing highway link; a safer, more convenient facility with less noise and air pollution per vehicle; increased land values; relatively little disturbance to the natural fauna with more significant disturbances to natural vegetation; and, reduced negative impact upon Mirror Lake and Thunderbird Falls Picnic Waysides.
