In the more simple Diehl method the assumption was made that the net thrust varies linearly with airspeed. In the more refined method, point-by- point computation was made of net accelerating force from instantaneous values of ground friction, thrust, drag and lift. In the majority of cases, Diehl's approximate method checked experimental values within plus or minus 7 percent. Attempts to improve the accuracy of ground run calculations by use of the refined method did not appear warranted unless strictly applicable thrust data were available.
