The report contains a discussion of some influencing factors which affect the physical ability of the pilot to see externally from the aircraft along with the restrictions they present to the field of view. Visibility data are presented on four experimental VTOL aircraft, XV-4A, XV-5A, X-22, and XC-142A, in the form of binocular photographs. A criteria tool is provided by establishing the depression angle of the spherical coordinate system as a parameter to determine the visibility requirements for the terminal landing phase of a VTOL aircraft. Finally, an abbreviated set of tables is presented to transfer the 'degrees-to-the-side and degrees-down' coordinate angles to the angles of the spherical coordinate system. (Author)
