The report deals with the problems of airport noise and the opportunities for employing 'on-the-ground' measures to alleviate the problem now and in the future. The overall objective of the study is to evaluate the potential use of preventive measures, as well as remedial measures, to achieve land use compatibility in the environs of a medium sized hub airport. The supporting research focuses on alternative techniques for alleviating aircraft noise and includes an investigation of the possible effects of such land related measures as codes, ordinances and local development policies; insulation of structures; and conversion or development of incompatible land uses.
