During the 1981 trafficability tests, instrumentation installed aboard POLAR SEA was used to measure and record propulsion parameters, ship speed, and ship motions. The instrumentation system consisted of 22 transducers, signal conditioning equipment, a Hewlett-Packard 9845T digital data acquisition system, an analog magnetic tape recorder, an oscillograph recorder, and a complete video tape system. This report volume provides equipment specifications and installation details for the entire system. Calibration procedures are described and the performance of the system during the tests is discussed. In addition, appendices contain calibration information which can be used for further analysis of the data and an index of raw data recorded on analog magnetic tapes.
