Over the next 6 years, East China's airport development will race to catch up and keep pace with the double-digit economic growth which has transformed East China itself. Major plans include construction of 18 airports, including two large-scale international airports, and improvements on 20 existing airports, including a second runway and a new terminal building for Shanghai's Hong Qiao airport. Estimated value of imported equipment and services is USD 62 million. A proposal for an international airport in Pudong which could require USD 100 million in imports is under study.
