This is Vol. 8 of a 9 volume study of approximately 200,000 California drivers. The volume evaluates California's negligent driver points system, and point system concepts in general, through a multiple regression technique, using violation types as independent variables. The results showed that the multiple R between an optimally weighted equation of violation types and accidents was almost identical to the simple correlation between total conviction frequency and accidents. This was interpreted as evidence against the efficiency of complex point systems for defining or selecting negligent drivers. (Author)
