Environmental and ship performance data were collected aboard the USCGC POLAR SEA in January-March 1981 as part of a multi-year program to make an operational assessment on the feasibility of a year-round marine transportation system (including offshore structures) serving Alaska. This is the fourth volume of a twelve volume set. A description is given of transit time predictions for commercial icebreaking ships along the route from Unimak Pass to the North Chukchi Sea. Four ships were analyzed; a POLAR Class icebreaker, MV ARCTIC, SS MANHATTAN, and a proposed Arctic Tanker.
